My page here at worknets

Current world-vision, in a nutshell

We're truly at the edge of chaos, so what we do, and more importantly what we do in connection to others, does matter. We are building a commons of knowledge and practical ideas and we are applying them to radically improve the world. Things can get running pretty fast, starting yesterday. Let's challenge our own views, get stuff done, and seriously enjoy the ride.

Thinking that's cooperative, creative, and action-oriented

"How can I learn to help people (especially proactive and generous people) in their intention of finding better ways (on their own and also together)?"

I see a huge need for cooperative thinking: just conversation, colored hats, open space technology ... Or is it that I just personally love to participate fully in those?

My name(s)

I want my personal page here to be with one surname only - i.e., this page you're reading now. Not accurate, but simpler.

Somehow two other pages were created:

  • One with my name only Lucas, no surnames, useful as a link to the main one.
  • Another with my two surnames (in Spanish culture it's first father's surname + first mother's surname): LucasGonzalezSantaCruz. I've left it empty, with just a link to this one.

Helmut Leitner

I'm happy to meet you, Lucas. Yesterday (Apr 14, 2005) I visited the global village Kirchbach. Met the people for the first time. It was inspiring to see how much motivation they get from the ideas that there are people outside who see a future for the village and take interest in their development. They are preparing "Tage der Utopie" Apr 18-23 ("Days of Utopia") which is to a large degree about sustainability. -- HelmutLeitner Apr 15, 2005

Hi Helmut! I wonder what "yesterday" means I'm still trying to make a habit - no, rather, bookmark all my "all recent changes" so I can follow the fields (as in garden) I contribute to (with my interest or my text). I see you're much into wikis, which is great! Just today (that's 20040116) I left a message in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solaroof about how email lists, wikis and forums compare. Simultaneously, there was a coment by Artur Silva at OSLIST about the same (he prefers lists for open space). I prefer wikis for http://www.solaroof.org -- Lucas

Sorry, yesterday really wasn't clear, I added a timestamp. Your solaroof wiki is nicely designed, it feels good. We have a good wiki/forum comparison at http://www.wikiservice.at/gruender/wiki.cgi?ForenWikiVergleich, but it's in German, so I don't know whether it's helpful. In short: they provide different experiences, attract different people and produce different products. In terms of sustainability, wiki seems better. It won't hurt to have them both like solaroof.org has, although I would expect that the main attention will shift to one subsystem and the other will have a hard time to develop. -- HelmutLeitner Apr 16, 2005

Lucus, I'm aware how insufficient the information is, that Kirchbach gives and that we are currently able to give about Kirchbach. While the process to become a global village is started and followed, many are still unaware of what that means. If you are motivated to help, you could write a GlobalVillages/LetterOfInterest to help the process. I'd be very thankful if you do. -- HelmutLeitner

Pras

My brother is looking for work translating Spanish to English -- Pras

I don't work as a translator, I just translate a bit of what I find relevant. Please leave a contact and more details if you still think I could help. -- Lucas

I am following the proposals and discussions of the working group of globalvillages and I found, among others, of particular interest the proposals of Lucas Gonzales (remember also my interest for the Canarias more in general). I tried to send an email on his address lucas (dot) gonzalez (AT) canarias (dot) org but it is not correct. Have you any other address of him? I Thank you, Giovanni.

Giovanni - My address is "gonzalez", not "gonzales". May that be it? I've also lost some mail recently.

2006.04.18 Hi Lucas! I'm glad to see you here. I needed a new wiki so that we could collect metadata and work with it. Little by little it will be apparent how that helps us. One example is our PersonalOutlooks page. The reason I chose to use ProWiki is that creator HelmutLeitner is active at our lab and very helpful to customize it for our needs. So please add your thoughts on what we need, starting with the simplest things, and we will respond. Thank you for your leadership!

Andrius and Lucas chat on November 3, 2007

Lucas had a problem with audio and skype: it was solved by installing a newer beta version of skype, ... and maybe plugging in the mic helped a bit! (Hah!)

Andrius:

  • I submitted 3 proposals for the USB Flash Drive Editor :: and now I am trying to consider next steps :: for the lab overall
  • I am thinking in terms of "ecosystems" :: so we have one ecosystem for "marginal Internet access" :: with dozens of endeavors and at least one sizable one (the Includer) that our lab could earn significant work from :: but other ecosystems might include ...
    • an online web system for organizing ourselves (endeavors, questions, values) and making that more engageable and also mapping out our ecosystems with visual thinking
    • an emergency response/information network that would be ready for flu pandemic, malaria outbreaks, etc.
    • community currency design, community economics
    • global villages - team building, on the ground technology, microhousing
Lucas:
  • i have been textchatting with Samwel and I/we have some ideas about what's needed for the pandemic - i want to write that out but haven't had time
Andrius:
  • so it would be good to talk some time about your interests, what you would find meaningful, what "ecosystem" you see relevant
  • Asif and I came up with an idea using SMS messages :: for example to work with a church or NGO in Africa :: and say we give them $20 just to try this... :: they would make a list of 100 people and their cell phone numbers :: and we would send them each an SMS with a test question (like a game) :: about say flu pandemic (like the 1 meter rule) :: and they would each send an answer :: and then if they did that we would give the church 100 USD :: so for a small amount of money we would have ready an emergency network :: with people who are discussing the issues :: and are easy to reach in the event of an emergency.
  • And we could do a small project and then look to scale them :: with outside funding?
Lucas:
  • technology may be relevant, but more relevant is to have a network of people who are ready to listen and act on it without losing too much time - there's the story about a novellist who, just after publishing a new book, wrote a simple message to his editor: "?", and the editor wrote back another simple message: "!" - the network was there already, full of shared information, so small messages worked!
Andrius:
  • yes so sending these SMS messages would be a way to practice that
Lucas:
  • so what you're saying is you'd be incentivating people to join the network? sounds interesting
Andrius:
  • we can't cover the cost of the peoples SMS :: but we can make sure that their church benefits :: so it is their contribution :: and also it becomes a subject for them to discuss and learn about
Lucas:
  • i have to go, can't save this chat!
