Henry Migingo
http://www.ryze.com/go/migingo Henry Migingo hails from Seme Reru, Kisumu Rural Constituency, Kenya. He did his basic education in a rural set up hence giving him acquaintance with the traditions and cultural practices of his Luo community. He is married with two children. Henry is an accountant by profession. He began his accounting practice at Kened International Company Ltd, a company dealing with clearing and forwarding. He then lectured at Agape School of Professional Studies where he also got basic computer knowledge. His accounting experience was further built when he joined Waiyai Dairy as an accountant and later Airport View Garage in the same capacity. He is currently working with Gulf African Petroleum Corporation Kenya Ltd, a company operating in several nations of Africa. Before joining college, Henry worked for two years with Plan International (currently Plan Kenya), as a data collector. This gave him the opportunity of meeting more than six thousand needy families. This is where his vision to help the marginalized poor and those suffering from AIDS, was born. He campaigns against the culture of polygamy, wife inheritance, female genital mutilation and sharing of knives in male circumcision ceremonies, a common practice in many communities of Kenya. He has used funeral gatherings, church meetings and high school invitations to do his advocacy. Henry is a born again Christian with deep roots in the teachings of Christ. He has been an associate of Kenya Students Christian Fellowship (KSCF) since 1996. KSCF has served him as a vehicle through which he has visited over two hundred public High schools, three colleges and one university in Kenya. Henry is concerned about the suffering of the Africans as they have been devastated by AIDS, hunger, constant marginalization among others. He also is reaching out to the Ogiek community which has been marginalized by the Kenyan government since the colonial peroid. Henry is currently a contributor in MS, a think tank that encourages independent & constructive thinking. Henry advocates for the following: 1.Bottom up economy as a means of taking the African economy from its knees. 2.Social Conscious investing & consumption. 3.Freedom of speech for the marginalized communities 4.Education for the Ogiek people and small-scale businesses for the adults 5.Creation of several Voluntary Counseling Centres (VCT’s) in Kenya 6.Strengthening of positive culture in the African community 7.The use of ICT tools as a means of communicating information 8.Collaboration and networking among organizations as a means of avoiding duplication.
ChatAndrius: Henry, your life and vision is very inspiring! Thank you for your work and leadership at our lab.
Henry, I think that a lot of people in Europe and around the world should help you with your goals. I'm from Graz, Austria, a software developer and wiki developer, actively working to connect people with the new tools of wiki and online communities. This means thinking together - deep dialogue. I believe that the world will change because better communication connects people to form a body, like cells do in our bodies. While there are privileges in a body (the heart is more protected, the brain better supported with blood), it doesn't make sense to have "rich and poor" in a body and competition like you have with individuals. Sorry for talking so long, I just want to make contact. -- HelmutLeitner
