Our Participants in Nigeria

PamelaMcLean

PamelaMcLean, July 5, 2007: I would very much like to include my Nigerian contacts. It is a considerable challenge with some of them because of the rural area issues etc. There are issues of connectivily and cost. Also there is the fact that people who are not accustomed to using the Internet for collaboration and information do not have a 21st century relationship with information. They are accustomed to spend a lot of time exchanging greetings and meeting people F2F. They tend to have a very local perspective. They hate to pass on bad news. It is very hard to get realistic progress reports - people do not see an immediate benefit and most do not yet have a vision for the longer term benfits of information exchnge. It is hard to convince people that what is mundane and normal to them is of interest to people who are thousands of miles away and in a very different culture. But we continue to build relationships and trust and understanding, and communication infrastructure gradually gets better too.
