What is education?

(a)What education means to everyone?

(b)What does education mean to you?

(c)What kind of education does our children need for the 21 century?

Iam wanting to find out what education means to everyone? What education mean to me.I feel that better education will give everyone a better chance in the workforce. It will give us a sense of accomplishment.

Hon'ble Justice Shris Rejendra Babu,a former Chief Justice of India once said A man without education is equal to animal although i dont believe too much on him.

But education has been described as the most potential mechanism for the advancement of human beings. It enlarges, enriches and improves the individual's image of the future. It emancipates the human beings and leads to liberation from ignorance.

When i look at the relationship between education and poverty reduction is thus quite straight and linear as education is empowering;it enables the person to participate in the development process;it inculcates the knowledge and skills needed to improve the income earning potential and in turn the quality of life.

Enshrined in the UN Convension on the right of a child, education is every child's right.Unfortunately is the right denied to millions of young people around the world.Iam looking inward to consider what education means to me.I grew up in western Tanzania where i attended public schools and while in secondary school joined a seminary school under roman catholic schools with limited resources but some exceptional, dedicated teachers. These teachers found ways to inspire and excite me without the benefits of the latest tools or materials. They gave me a solid academic education and.more importantly ignited in me a passion of learning.

I learned many things at school, but i learned as much from my family and my community.I was fortunate to study at a school "catholic school" with a large library, and books within those wall opened new doors for me on every visit.Visiting libraries has been part of my extracurricular activities that expanded my horizons, intoduce me to people from a variety of backgrounds, and teach me important lessons about interacting with others and being true to myself.

Education on my personal view

Education is a lifetime inheritance,it is a lifetime insurance.

Education is the key to success,a bus for a bright future for all people, there is little that a person can do-actually there is nothing a person can do without an education.A person is never too old for knowledge;as my people the Swahili, always say "Tunajifunza kila siku" (Everyday is education, everyday we are learning). We must be knowledge seekers and we must strive for a better life through education.

To me education means a chance to learn,to improve my mind,to become more than iam.More knowlegable, more wise.Education means being around people who care about some of the same things that i do,,,improving ,growing and helping others do the same.Education means creativity and interesting banter.Education means getting deep into those ideas rather than just glossing over.Education means investigating your motives rather than ignoring them.Education means sharing knowledge with others and improving as a community.

It is a long going question,''what means by education'? In my conclusive opinion; the one which empowers the learner with a grace of humanity, care and respect for others, sacrifice for others, help to protect the environment for the safety of the nature. The education which can avoid wars and other human terrible incidences.

What do other scholars say about Education?

You will do me a much greater good if you give my soul relief to ignorance than if you give my body relief from disease. Socrates in Lesser Hippias

JosephatNdibalema is investigating How can Education play a role in the Development of an individual?

July 27, 2007 chat by JosephatNdibalema and AndriusKulikauskas:

AndriusKulikauskas: Josephat, this is your question: How can education play a role in the development of an individual? :: What is your plan for investigating this question?

Josephat: Yes on my view education can play a role in the development of an individual, but how?

AndriusKulikauskas: Yes let's think of how to investigate that :: It is a difficult question :: We can ask how the development of a society relates to the development of an individual, what is the link? :: We can look for examples of that link in Africa and elsewhere in the world. :: And then we can see how they influence each other perhaps?

Josephat: On my view education can play a great role in the development of a sciety :: The connection still brings troubles :: The connection still low :: I agree to what you have said :: The question is hard to answer but with the help from people with different ideas this will come right

AndriusKulikauskas: One part of the question is to think, what do we mean by development of society? What are the dimensions of that development?

Josephat: The conection still brings some troubles :: Hi again, :: Education comes basic on development,as a means of acquiring and processing on knowledge :: I'm coming with my ways on education :: I prefer project education :: Motivated by SelfLearning/ SelfEducation :: With project education one learn and make use of what he has learned :: As you have already said that we also need to find on how one can learn easily :: This work becomes complete with the help of different people-through an investigatory question

AndriusKulikauskas: How do you think ProjectEducation impacts society? :: And what examples do you see of that?

Josephat: Also i ask your help on this like linking me to people you have ever contacted, now i'm trying to bulding a strong local base :: Now i'm trying to build a strong local base :: Now i'm leaving, the connection is'nt yet clear, goobyee
